Labiaplasty

It’s not unusual for women to develop sagging elongated skin of their labia minora after child birth or naturally have asymmetrical or large labia. It’s also not uncommon for women to feel self-conscious or experience pain or chaffing when doing activities like running, biking, wearing tight clothing or even make intercourse painful.

Fortunately, there are cosmetic surgical procedures to reshape the labia and improve self-esteem and quality of life.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is a Labiaplasty Procedure Performed?

The patient will first be placed to sleep with either an IV anesthesia or a general anesthesia. Once the patient is asleep, an incision will be made to removing the excess skin, the remaining skin will be contoured to alleviate the sagging, elongated or asymmetrical tissues. The incision will be closed with dissolvable sutures to facilitate the healing process.

Who is a Candidate for Labiaplasty?

Women who are not happy with the size or shape of their labia, or have pain from the long labia during activities such as jogging, cycling or sexual intercourse.

What is the Recovery Process Like from this Procedure?

There is some mild pain after surgery, and some swelling and bruising are normal for the first couple of weeks. Patients can usually return to work in as little as 2 to 5 days, even though full healing takes 4 to 6 months. Wearing loose clothing helps prevent rubbing, or chaffing on the area which could slow down the healing. Sexual intercourse needs to wait for 6 weeks.
